History of Sir Willliam Peel.
Born 1824-1854.
The home of the legends that are the Sir William Peel FC.The club started 5 years ago by the landlord , the late Dermot Hehir,and now continued in his memory by his wife Lindsey Hehir.It is a well supported club throughout the town. It provides a focal point for the community as well as new comers to the town.The pub itself is noted for its beer,serving 4 quality hand pumped ales,and a fine selection of lagers,ciders and spirits.A true local in evey sense ,and should be supported,as your local is a dying breed.It also provides live music acts,as well as regular quiz nights and karoake evenings.So why not try the only Local on the High St?
3rd son of Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel.Awarded Victoria cross for bravery in battle during the Crimean war,Captain Peel took up a live shell with the fuse still burning from amongst several powder cases and threw it over the parapet. the shell,burst as it left his hands.Peel lived in Sandy,And decided to build the Sandy to Potton Railway line this was completed in 1857.Peel was then Ordered to return to battle in India to stop the mutiny.He recieved an injury during battle,and on his way home he contracted small pox.He died 27th April aged 33 years.
Lindsey's daughter Katie has just completed a half marathon for this charity last weekend in Reading.Her time was just over 2 hrs.
Charity Football quiz night was well attended and the winning team"THE LEGENDS"won the quiz.Dan Cleary,Simon Goldman,Mark Pallister,Mark Cooke made up the LEGENDS team.Managed to raise over £100 pounds.Thank you to all who took part.
